Just a Few Prospectors

My nephew, Brogan, is passionate about his interests. First, it was trains. The boy knew EVERYTHING about trains. He spent his days building tracks, discussing the many different types of cars, and watching train shows. He would tell me all kinds of intersting facts about trains. Such a boy.

His current passion is mining. He loves reading all these non-fiction books about miners. He knows everything about the different types of miners, the tools they use and even their explosive devices. The other day, as he was pretending the garage was a mine shaft he even told Papa CC, "walk softly Papa, the nitroglycerin may explode and blow up forever." Even Aubrey has caught on. The other day as we were drawing, she said, "Mom, look, I drew a mine shaft."

So when my mom was visiting for Aubrey's birthday, Papa CC told us about a really cool creek where the kids could pan for gold. We packed up after church and headed up past Woody. Along the way we even saw some cowboys and their cows.

We finally arrived at our destination and hiked down the hill to the creek.

Just a few prospectors hoping to strike it rich.

This little guy was a happy camper, even if it was "just Pyrite we were finding". I think he may have thought we were REALLY going to find some gold.

These ladies, on the other hand, didn't know any better, and were pretty satisfied with thier "fool's gold". {Yes, my mom included. ;) }
