What a special day! Although it felt like we should just be celebrating our moms, like in years past, yesterday was my day too. It wasn't the gift that made it special for me (although Justin bought us an amazing video camera to use on our little doodle bug), but just spending special time with Aubrey. Justin made us breakfast and we relaxed and played before we got ready for church. We thought we would go to late service so Aubrey could get a nap in before church, but she's teething and didn't want to cooperate :) So Aubrey came in service with us during worship (she was shouting to the Lord too) and then during service mommy took her out into the foyer to spend some one on one time. I didn't want to bring a tired baby to nursery (since she's not a big fan anyways). She was such a happy girl while we were playing. After church while Aubrey napped, Justin's family and grandma came over for lunch (my mom's out of town). It was nice to relax with family. Aubrey was still tired from her 1st missed nap, so all three of us took a nap together in the afternoon(Aubrey's favorite and mine too). We had dinner out on the patio... the perfect ending to a relaxing Mother's Day!
Although I enjoyed it, I think about what Mother's Day is for, and it seems silly to celebrate ME... I know being a mom isn't the easiest of jobs, but it is the most rewarding. It seems like everyday is my Mother's Day. I get to wake up blessed with a healthy, beautiful baby. I got to hear her first cry, see her first smile and I'm the one she wants to snuggle with when she's tired. Those moments are what make "Mother's Day" special. I guess it's a day to celebrate the incredible responsibility we've been given. I'm in charge of shaping, molding this little baby into a Godly, productive adult. God is trusting me (us) to listen to Him, turn to Him and guide Aubrey in His ways. Mother's Day is a day to celebrate the gift of motherhood we've been given. Thank you God for choosing me to share in this gift!
