Grandma Kim told us about a western day at the Art Museum, and Aubrey was so excited to be a cowgirl for the day! She's really into horses, ranches and lassos. I think her Uncle Jed has rubbed off on her. She also L♥VES, loves her cowgirl outfit that Grandma Nancy got her for her birthday last year and had her whole look planned out in her head. She wanted to wear her cowgirl outfit, boots with rainbow socks, and cowgirl hair (two STRAIGHT ponies). She was such a cute cowgirl! She got up at 6:30am (very unusual for my girl who likes to sleep in) asking if she could get dressed and go be a cowgirl. Daddy made her a cowgirl breakfast {bacon, eggs and toast} and she called grandma to see if she wanted to come along.
As you walked up to the museum, a real cowboy was on his horse showing off his gear. Aubrey walked right up to him, hands on her hips to have a chat. He complimented her outfit, which she totally ate up. Then he lassoed her. It was pretty cute. Yee haw! It was the start to a fun day.

After meeting the cowboy and his horse Booger (yes, that's what he said they called him), we headed inside to see square dancing and check out the activities like story time, art, etc. Aubrey wanted nothing to do with these activities. She had a one track mind: pony rides!

We got in line just in time! I guess while Justin and Kim were in line with her, she kept saying she wanted to ride the little horse, but when they got to the front of the line, she changed her mind and wanted to ride the BIG horse (and it was BIG). So they had to wait for a few extra kids, and then Aubrey mounted the saddle and decided it was a bit too big for her taste. Another small wait, and she got on the perfect sized horse. The got a pretty good little ride around a small area of the yard, twice. Much better than the pricey fair pony ride. Juliet and I hung out in the shade while she was riding.

Then she was off to the races! They had stick horse or sack races. The perfect sized little lady came to race her and they were off! I don't know if you can see in these pictures, but my favorite thing was how they both were sticking their tounges out as they concentrated on the race. So fun!

It was time to cool off inside with a fun art activity. Aubrey used oil pastels to color a cowboy boot. I could see her checking out the other boots on the wall trying to decide her vision. At first she wanted to have a rainbow boot, but then, after drawing her red heart up top, decided whe wanted her boot to be mostly red...a girl and her shoes ;) She was VERY determined to cover as much white as possible. She was really excited to have her boot up on the wall to be displayed!

Our cowgirl was sad to leave, but that didn't last long. Grandma Kim had bought her a special gift...her own horse and cowboy, lasso and all. She knows the way to cowgirl's heart.
