With the exception of our 3 different couches, our house has been decorated the same since we moved in 5 years ago. Overall, I'm happy with the look, but there are a few things that I'm ready to update. It was still kind of difficult to get super long curtains when we moved into the house, so I sewed the ones on the slider. I had enough fabric for the other two windows in the great room, but I never finished that project. It is definitely time to update the window coverings. I'm also over the pictures that I have up in the dining area. I like them, but I'd really prefer a photo collage wall like the Pottery Barn catalog. In addition, I want a little buffet that I can put some cute decorations on and maybe some cute vintage dishes. Finally, the light fixture that came with the house has got to go. Considering I'm STILL not finished with Aubrey's big girl room, I'm doubting all of these wants will get fulfilled anytime soon.
Here are some of the before pictures (keep in mind, I have fall decorations up) and some of my visions for what I want to put in the room.

The curtains from IKEA
Do you think they're too bold for all three windows? It would be a whole wall of leaf print.
The buffet, also IKEA

A couple of reasons I like this buffet, a) it's cheap b) the little shelf up top to act as a resting place for my photo collage
A couple of reasons I DON'T like this buffet, a) the finish doesn't match my walnut furniture b) I'm not sure how tight of a fit it will be...I would definitely need to take the leaf out of the table.

When this girl is back in action, I'll have to get some family pictures to fill my wall with. SO FUN!
So what do you think? Could I paint the buffet a different color? Would the curtains be too busy? Would it just plain be too much furniture?
If all else fails, it is fun to dream. :)

I am in love with photo collages right now too! I plan to do one in the entry with 2 long shelves. And if you like the buffet, you know my opinion on painting things. ;) And as far as the curtains go, I think maybe if you kept everything else fairly neutral, you should be ok... but I don't know. Hmmm.
curtain hating and pregnancy must go hand in hand because every since I got pregnant with Ben I LOATHE my curtains. I was hoping once he got here the urge would pass...nope, just as fierce as ever. =)
love all your thoughts! and ideas..
I wonder if you could do some sort of antiquing thing on the hutch? I think paint on it could work...
Decorating is really not my gift so I'm not much help...sorry!
hello! my husband and i bought that same kind of furniture from ikea when we first got married! this year I re-did my entire decorating and wanted to paint all the ikea furniture. it was HARD. i ended up just selling it all. i think probably the only way you could do it is to spray paint it...but then you never know how long it will stay on there. just wanted to give my input!
Can't believe I didn't comment on this yet! LOVE those curtains- they really tie together the colors in there. Definitely not too much of that pattern, I don't think. Love the buffet too! Our coatrack/shelf thing is that- leksvig or something? It's actually held up really really well- and I like that the style of it is, if it gets a few dings, it looks like it's supposed to be that. Seems multi-funtional working as a shelf and hutch. Ohhhh it would be fun to go to Ikea together sometime. I love that place.
