In 80 Days...

I'm due to have a baby! HOLY COW!

80 days doesn't seem that far away. 2 months and a couple of weeks, that's it?! The preparations for this baby are so different than with Aubrey. With your first pregnancy, that's all you focus on, all you can think about. Names were a daily discussion, registries a priority, the room, a constant work in progress. I would work during the day, nap and read What To Expect in the evenings, and dream of my sweet baby every night. Don't get me wrong, I long to hold this baby every bit as much as I did with Aubrey...it's just different.

My days are filled with a new kind of work, taking care of another child. We don't wander around Babies R Us on the weekends picking out all kinds of items that we will never end up using. We know more about what we'll need. The room is already done (same neutral nursery we had with Aubrey) and we're just about done with Aubrey's big girl room (about stinkin' time ;) ). Names, well, I'm not sure we'll ever agree on a boy's name. I feel as prepared as I can get, yet, I know there's SO much to do.

This 80 days business seems so far away, yet so close to the end. I already look like I'm going to pop (many people have confirmed this). My principal said, "Wow, you're ALREADY looking so uncomfortable" and my co-worker said, "You just get that way, don't you? Just huge." LOL! "Yes, yes, I do." And really, I'm not one of those easily offended people. I know I'm a large prego lady, but really I'm wondering what I'll look like when it's time to deliver. Should be interesting. I'm just hoping I have another large baby, so at least I have a good excuse (no larger than my first 9lb 14oz baby, though, that was big enough. ;) ) . Thank goodness I still have those 80 days, because in those 80 days I need to:

  • Do sub plans for all the time that I'll be away from work (Did I mention how excited I am to be going on maternity leave till March?)
  • Figure out child care for this new baby when I have to go back to work. I've never really wanted the wee one to go to Aubrey's day care place...just seems so impersonal, but I was excited that they did have an infant class because that was an option. As of last week, they posted a notice that they are discontinuing the infant program. STRESS.
  • Pick out a potential boy's name
  • Buy and wash some larger take home outfits (Aubrey's was a bit snug on her plump body)
  • Register...I think (Do you even do that with a second baby?)
  • Shop, wrap and prepare for Christmas before my belly is too big for me to do that.
  • Register at the hospital, get my Rhogam shot, and decide on a birthing plan (I like the IDEA of natural, but I'm not sure about it...)
  • Clean out the hall closet, the nursery closet and changing table and organize the junk/craft room
  • Spend a little time loving on my "only child" while she's still technically an "only child"
  • Potty train said "only child"
  • Refresh my memory on some good newborn routines (Baby Whisperer, etc)
  • Make a ring sling (or borrow the one I made Alisha ;)
  • Make sure my pump is ready to milk away ;)
  • And I'm sure a million other things that I can't think of...if you know of something that I really should do, please remind me.

On a lighter note, my wish list:

I think we want the Phil and Ted's b/c the bottom seat is removable. Any other suggestions?

Ergo carrier

Video monitor- though my sis gave me hers to use...SCORE!
A cute diaper bag

Some snuggly warm newborn hats for our winter baby

I know it is so crazy, isn't it? I both can't believe it is so close and yet I am so ready to be done with being pregnant!

I really want the Phil and Ted's too. I love how compact it folds up, I love that the second seat is removable (because I'll probably sling Sprout the first few months anyway), I love all the fun colors it comes in. I love the big wheels. And yeah, I just love that thing.

Also, I keep hearing really good things about the Moby wraps. Everyone says they are the most comfortable and easiest on your back. It just looks way complicated to me though.

Phil and Teds, Phil and Teds, Phil and Teds! I'm the cheerleading squad that's never tried one but think it looks like about the best baby invention EVER (why didn't people just tell us to get doubles with the FIRST?). Oh I am just bursting with excitement at all of your fun choices. I can't sing ENOUGH praises about that ergo wrap. I've heard it's said that it's like a moby but with snaps so none of the tying craziness. Amazing. Ohhhh the PPB bag is also near and dear to my heart. Wow. I am so excited for you! I was noticing the 80 days on your blog earlier today!

such cute stuff! i was just talking to someone about the phil and teds earlier. it does look very compact and appealing--do you know if the toddler can sit in front? i think ollie would have a fit in the back, but i don't know.

sounds like you are prepared to me!

and i wish i had an ergo carrier or something. my arms are falling off over here.

Okay, so I feel like I could just copy and paste 80% of this post and make it my own! I am SO grateful I don't have to do sub plans...that sounds like so much work! I heard of a (new to me) preschool that a colleague just raved about...I'll find out the name for you so you can check to see if they take infants. I want to volunteer to help you out, but I don't know if it's realistic to take on another newborn...plus I live totally out of your way.

I don't think I'm going to register...I guess I didn't figure anyone would be buying me anything this time around (other than maybe grandparents and a cute outfit or two after the fact).

I think I've decided that I want to do this one naturally. I am reading a book about it and I know that if I don't decide 100% and get J to help me and back me up (not let me wuss out) I won't do it. And I think that I really want to do it. I just want to be ready this time. I'm actually considering hiring a doula...

Um, our wish lists are practically identical! I totally want the Phil and Teds, but am not sure I can justify spending the money b/c I don't know how long Hudson will be okay with riding in a stroller. Although now that I think about it, Aubrey is a year older and she still rides in a stroller sometimes, right? I totally agree...I wish someone had told me to buy one of those from the beginning. Or I wish someone made a sit n stand with nice BIG wheels...

I have heard great things about the Ergo Baby. I have the Moby wrap and didn't use it much...for one thing I think I didn't put Hudson in a sling early enough so he didn't really like it (except he did okay with the Bjorn that I borrowed b/c he could see out) and it would be a big pain to put on to go shopping or something like that. You would seriously have to either put it on before you left the house and drive around with it on, or you would have all of the pieces of fabric falling all over the ground in the parking lot.

Sorry, this got long...

For the record.=)

Such cute stuff!! I will be so jealous of the Phil and Ted's... although I guess I rarely leave the house so what would be the point?! I really want to know if the ergo thingy is worth it cuz I don't want to waste my money if this is my last kid! And HATS! Oh hats! Love them right now! Any and all.

I think you are sounding very prepared!

80 days!!! (and now, much less, because I'm soooo behind in commenting lol) Sounds like you are in the getting-ready stage. Hooray!!

I have a Phil and Ted's and let me just say I LOVE IT. REALLY LOVE IT. A LOT. hehe. seriously. best stroller ever. I know it's a bit expensive, but I've never regretted one penny of it. Such a great investment. Especially if you think you might have more kids someday. OH I could go on and on about the wonder that is Phil and Ted's... but I'll spare you. :)
