Before we got Poppy, we always wanted to get a water dog, something like a curly haired retriever. We were poor newlyweds though and instead looked through the local listings for a dog we could afford. Then we saw the listing that answered everything we wanted. Brittany Spaniels for $150. They were pure bred, they were good with kids and they liked water...all for a reasonable price, WOW! We were just going to go look at the pups and decide if we wanted one.

Have you ever seen a Brittany puppy? Pretty much the cutest things ever! We couldn't resist..and Poppy became our first baby! Like any child, she went through her terrible toddler stage. Brittanys are a very energetic breed and some people were intimidated by our wild child. Over the years though, she's calmed down, and we take her to the doggy park or a school to run around every couple of weeks. She is everything we ever wanted in a dog. She's adorable, medium sized, smart, GREAT with kids, but she has always failed to demonstrate her skills as a waterdog. We even bought her a doggie life vest for when we go kayaking with Justin's family because of a scary incident involving her "chasing" after a duck in the middle of Lake Ming. Poor Poppy just wasn't good in the water...that is until this year.
This year Poppy randomly decided to use her water dog skills. She started jumping in CC's pool when we would swim at his house and would climb onto the baby raft and float around relaxing. She also jumped right off the edge when we took her for a walk in Riverlakes and the ocean....well lets just say she doesn't only enjoy the doggie beach for the big rocks anymore.
Without further adeiu....Poppy the Water Dog....our 1st baby :)
**I always hesitate to post about our dog, assuming no one really cares to read about her. My friend Teri told me that her hubby Matt has a little doggie crush on Poppy though, so I thought he would appreciate this post.

Who wouldn't have a crush on Poppy, I mean have you seen those long sexy legs of hers. I love Poppy and her energy. :) And I think it is pretty funny that she will stop anything she is doing at the sight of "crack." LOL Oh Poppy-girl. ;)
OH man, I LOL at the picture of Poppy in the raft. That is AWESOME. And Aubrey's little voice- so sweet! Not to mention, the memories in that pool and laying out on the patio cover to the left. Crazy!
Oh I am glad you did a post about Poppy. I do love that dog. I did dog handling growing up and one of the breeds I did was Brittany. I actually had a chocolate one for about year, but he was a little bird crazy... got out of our yard to chase a bird and got hit by a car. I was so heartbroken. If we didn't get our first dog when we were at the condo (which required a much smaller breed) I totally would have gone for a Brittany as our first dog. I just love those dogs!
that's is so funny that earlier in her life she had no swimming skills! too cute.
Matt is going to be SOOOO EXCITED about this! I can't wait until he gets off work to see this. Thanks Barb!
Dear Barbie and Justin,
Thank you so much for increasing your coverage of poppy on the blog! The puppy photos were adorable, and the video clip was awesome. (Very cute that Aubrey narrated it for us). Would it be too much to ask if the puppy photo could be enlarged? Or perhaps begin a sub-blog chronicling Poppy hi-jinx?
thanks!
Matt
That was different and cute. I loved the pic. of You and the brand new pup, esp Justin. I think he has gained a little weight since then. I can't imagine Justin without a dog. Gma
I LOVE it. Roxie hates the water. but it's not her fault. it's genetic. poodles and MUCH to prissy for water. and schnauzers, well I'm not sure what they're known for.
but we love her. and we love your poppy=)
